Wet N Wild Favorites

If you’ve visited my blog before, you’ll notice that I primarily wear high-end products. There’s just something about stepping into a Sephora or Nordstrom that makes me feel like I belong on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. I mean I can’t afford a Bentley, but I can afford to buy the same lipstick as Kyle Richards (which is probably as close as I’ll ever get to Beverly Hills Housewife status).

I used to relate Walgreens and CVS with two things: cold medicine and greeting cards. Shockingly, they are now the primary stores I go to for my favorite drugstore brand: Wet N Wild.

I’m no stranger to Wet N Wild products, since they were really the only brand I could afford when I was in grade school and middle school. For a while their products were really marketed towards pre-teens, since everything was dirt cheap and they had a diverse color scheme in terms of eye shadows and lipsticks. When I was 12 I could buy all the icy blue eye shadow and bubblegum pink lipstick my heart desired, and still be able to afford to buy my Michelle Branch and Incubus CDs – I was a super weird kid apparently.

Not long ago I saw reviews popping up on Youtube for the Wet N Wild Photofocus Foundation, and everyone was talking about how much they loved it. One day while I was in Walgreens buying cold medicine (of course), I saw the display for the foundation and figured why not.

I have been wearing this foundation almost every single day since I’ve bought it – it’s that good. And for $6 a bottle? I honestly feel like I’ve struck gold since this has a very similar formula to my NARS Sheer Glow which is $47 per 1 oz bottle. I find that the formula provides a nice satin, matte finish that doesn’t cling to dry patches and is pretty long wearing. The only real issue with this foundation is the really bizarre smell it has when you first apply it. The smell disappears once you work it into your skin, but at first I was really worried that I would break out or have a bad reaction. Luckily, my sensitive skin has been fine and I’m really enjoying saving $41 on my everyday foundation.

Since I had such great luck with the Photofocus foundation, I decided to give the new Wet N Wild MegaCushion foundation a try. It’s a bit pricier at $8.99 and only contains 0.52 oz, which is half of the amount included in the Photofocus foundation. I’ve tried the Maybelline cushion foundation in the past and was pretty unimpressed with how it performed on my combination skin. Luckily, the MegaCushion foundation is another win for me! I find that the formula is more of a medium coverage with a slightly dewy finish, and it actually has a very pleasant scent. It’s not something I would wear on a long day in the heat since the staying power isn’t amazing, but I do think it’s great for the dry winter weather.

The Wet N Wild Megaglo highlighters are the best drugstore value for highlighter in my opinion, and for $4.99 the pigmentation and blend-ability are pretty incredible. I feel like the formula can seem a little chunky when you swatch them, but once applied with a brush they look pretty seamless. I personally love both Precious Petals and Blossom Glow for everyday use, but I feel like this product is also a perfect way to save money on cool trendy highlighters as well. If I decide to go to a music festival this summer, I feel like a fun lavender highlight like Royal Calyx would be a great way to liven up my makeup. This way I can try something funky with my makeup, and save money on something I’ll only use once or twice.
